Still, it's the norm to do it for your province first, you gotta play the position well at S14 level before test level (Unless you're gits, then you play anywhere)Originally Posted by Burgs
Yeah, I guess what I'm getting at, he may "get away with" playing on the Wing at S14 but he won't make France as a Wallaby Winger.
If he goes to France it would have to be as a Centre or a Utility, not a specialist Winger as, in my opinion, he is too slow for International level.
His best position at both levels is at #12 and I believe he is the better option than Giteau and I know there are plenty who disagree on the final point.

I do agree, he's probably too slow for the wing at test level these days. I think Tuqiri/Gerrard is the fastest wing combo we have.
Yeah, they would be who I would be focusing on, with Latham at the back and Shepherd as cover on the Bench.

With you Burgs on the Stanners at 12 issue. I think he straightens our line up and provides a "solider" middle. I think Gits would be best for us not at 9 or 12 but at 10! (I'm waiting for the belting now - with pleasant anticipation!)
Whilst Hilgendorf did an admirable job in his limited time at 10 last year, I still don't see him as a true playmaker at S14 level and Scotty Daruda is still not up to the pressure.
After last nights performance, I think the best I've seen the Force play was the 20 minutes whilst Gits was playing 10.
You're expecting a belting?! I want him at #9 (Burgs ducks the barrage of pots) as I reckon that is where he has the most freedom to "create".
His matches at #10 I haven't been all that impressed with although he has probably been trying to play someone else's game plan (Bernie etc) rather than as a settled 5/8.
The flair and space that would be created with a #9 Giteau, #10 Hilgendorf #12 Staniforth would be arguably the greatest in S14.
We all saw what Jimmy and Stanners could do with very limited time together in '06, now just slide Gits in to feed them...mind blowing! And still retain a greater defensive presence with Stanners instead of Gits in that crucial central corridor.

I'm with you Burgs, except I'm still a MacKay shipper, he's the most level-headed 10 you've got.
As Phil Kearns says when MacKay got injured, "The Force are missing a brain"
Good point Sage, almost forgot about poor old Lachlan! (must be based on the mere 30 seconds we've seen of him at the games)
Mackay might just get my vote over Jimmy.
Yeah, I think he said that during the Tahs telecast (watched it a week ago, not a photographic memory) but to be fair to both Hilgendorf and Kearnsy, the NEXT week was the first for Jimmy in a #10 jersey at this level.
I think Kearnsy may have a different way of expressing the sentiment following the end of the season. Jimmy is one of those rare players that creates time, almost like the clocks slow down (a bit like Wirrapunda for AFL followers) for him. I think that the rest of Australia would have "seen" what Force supporters saw in him if he hadn't been assualted against the Blues![]()
Certainly agree that MacKay is a great player, however having not played very much in the last eighteen months and being out til at least Round 4 he is going to find it pretty tough to break into the starting line up, if only through lack of match fitness etc.
If accepting my 9,10,12 then MacKay offers the perfect Bench cover for 10 and 12 with size plus skill.

(Shaun knocks Burgs over the head with a frying pan)
Giteau is best suited to #12 or #10 with his acceleration, side step and ability to kick. MaCkay gets my vote in at #10 if Giteau is playing #12.
Every forwards dream is to become a back...
(Burgs rubs his head but comes back for more as he is solid in his convictions)
The trouble is Shaun that MACKAY IS INJURED!!!!!
Forget MacKay, we can debate him if he ever plays more than twenty minutes![]()

Yeah mate, he was in the booth for 6PR last night, Round 4 after the SA Tour returns is the feeling.
He favoured Jimmy for #10 for next week as the likely selection.

Ok well then I'm good with Hilgy at #10 and Giteau at #12...
Apparently Staniforth has a similar injury to me- in the abductor...
