The whole article is naive. Sponsors provide the dollars for facilities and prize money.

How many sponsors are willing to say here - take our money - but don't name it after us, and don't change the colors or anything.

And I still think of the Sheffield Shield as just that. If you change the title of something, you severe it from its history.

Everyone I know outside of the media and official CA statements continued to call it the Sheffield Shield instead of Pura Cup, even the players continued to call it the Shield. Funnilly enough it is now officially known as the "Weet Bix Sheffield Shield" but no one I know keeps the sponsor when referring to the competition.

The money it brings into the game is what is important

Same with the "Emirates Western Force", no one I know refers to the Force as that, and you rarely hear them called that outside of RugbyWA propaganda, and it's effectively nothing more then a plug for the main sponsor which is tolerable, espeacially with the amount of money they give RugbyWA

I think she makes a fair point, I'd prefer to have a stadium named after something else, you can always keep the sponsers advertising and what not, and mention sponsered by ... or something, I think big corporations in Australia are just way too money hungry.

Money makes the world go round, hence selling the naming rights. But the fans still call the stadium what the fans christen it. (Carisbrook = "The Brook" to locals / "The House of Pain" to outsiders.)

Isn't it a shame Subiaco Oval didn't get renamed to Crazy Johns Stadium. WAFC must have found another source of income.....o yeah Rugby WA rent. Maybe it will have to rename next year.

Somehow the constant ads about nasal delivery technology and enjoying a night at the rugby don't seem to gel together in my head, but maybe thats what we have to look forward to.

So they can get their name out there, etc. the only reason I signed up for my MBF health insurance is because they sponser the force! okay i lie I only realised after! but some people will go to one company over another because they see its name plastered over stadiums! Hence they get money!

Isn't that that the point of sponsorship and naming rights to stadiums? Sponsorship is just another avenue for advertising
