Absolutely agree, was speaking more to Alison's post and the hazards of drawing direct lines between playing rugby, dementia and liabilities.

If you have a chance. Check out the movie Concussion with Will Smith.

The movie is based on a true story and is about Brain Injury in NFL players.

The NFL only started taking it seriously when veteran players were taking their own lives by shooting themselves in the heart so that research could be done with their brains.

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!" - Rocky Balboa

Seen it. What I am saying is that those representing the rugby players would have to demonstrate a) a clear statistical increase in the affect on rugby players, relative to the rest of the population b) tie it clearly to trauma and not much else, and c) show that the relevant administrative bodies knew about it and either concealed or inadequately addressed the issue. Which may not in fact be helped by that movie, as it could be argued that given most of the players now playing came along after 2011, they can't say they were completely unaware of the issue themselves. And given that they have long had player bodies like RUPA with a say in the running of the game and the responsibility to represent the interests of their members, it may not be the Unions alone bearing the responsibility.
