Just wish League could disappear into an abyss never to be heard of again. Its a simple wish, not asking for much..

Optimism grows on WA rugby league bid

    By Nick Taylor

The WA Rugby League is confident it is the frontrunner to get a team in the expanded National Rugby League competition.

The WARL will face fierce opposition from the Central Coast Bears, who already have launched a high-profile campaign to be part of the expansion that is expected in 2013 when new television contracts are due.

The WARL has about 18 months to get a bid together but chairman Terry Creasey said talks with NRL chief executive David Gallop had been positive.

"We are seen very favourably as the No. 1 state to put in a new team, that's for sure," Creasey said. "It's a great goal but we've got a lot to do to get there. We've got to get the government behind us, sponsors to get."

Creasey said the WARL hoped to have 3500 members this year and 10,000 by the end of next year.

"With the stream of people coming from the east we are getting amazing feedback from people who want to see the game played here at a top level," he said.

Creasey said there already had been interest from administrators and players. "To be honest, we've had a flood of CEOs, coaches, players that all want to come over here," he said.

I was sceptical at first, as David Gallop has always downplayed expansion to WA in favour of concentrating on their "heartland". But a RLW article seems to point to a rethink by the NRL. Whoever is in the mix is way, way behind the Central Coast in any event.

"So many people are coming out of the closet," he said. "Nobody wanted to say anything before"
Looks like the WARL's CEO casts an eye over postings on this website too.

I have been fairly scepitcal myself when it comes to David Gallop and expansion, but remember he played his cards very close to his chest on the Gold Coast re-entry. He actually is talking up expansion prospects which can't be a bad thing.
The Sydney heartland of League is over populated as it, the only heartland areas to check off would either be Brisbane 2 or Cental Coast and it looks like one of those may already be checked off behind closed doors. Central Qld's bid is apparently well behind the 8 ballPosted via Mobile Device

Maybe they don't realise the teams are playing a different game!
I can just see idiots asking me when the derby is.

League has it's place (as a sort of union-light) and if the promise of a third team using a rectangular stadium gets it built/upgraded, I'm not going to complain.

Apparently there is speculation that Melbourne will cop a six figure fine and the loss of Premiership points for violating the salary cap

Must be a pretty mean one then.

There is no game more resilient than NRL. The Storm may not do as well. The Rebels ex-CEO might have unintentionally won them a great big free kick at the Storm's expense.

I can't find a positive anywhere here and I fervently hope it doesn't happen. I feel really sorry for the supporters. Probably only Newtown, Western Reds, Adelaide Rams and South Sydney supporters will know how bad that feels.
