I'm in Melbourne and went to two of the Rebels matches. ON both occasions the crowd was nearly 3000. Not sure about the other Rebels home games, but I know that these figures are as good or better than many of the other teams home matches (including those in the traditional rugby states). The season was going on during the AFL finals, world cup, (and I think some swimming championships??) Give us a GO!! I guarantee there's alot of support for rugby ready to be tapped here. It sould be a massive shame if the ARU gave up on getting more of a foothold so easily.
(Mind you I just want a S14 team here so I can get to watch the Force without leaving the state!! Carn the Force ;-)
I think most of the punters on this site are with you there TommyM, and seriously, in AFL heartland, during September pulling a crowd of 3000 on a Saturday isn't a half-bad effort. I think most of the vitriol has been reserved for the bean counters who are trying to suggest that this is an excuse to can the project.
