Firepower boss Tim Johnston surrenders Aussie passport
Andrea Hayward
DISCREDITED Firepower boss Tim Johnston surrenders his passport, complying with a Federal Court order after being slapped with a travel ban in Australia.
The formerly Perth-based businessman is understood to have been living in London for some time but arrived in Australia on Tuesday, reportedly to visit family.
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) moved swiftly on news of his arrival, applying for an injunction to prevent the globe-trotting businessman from leaving the country.
Justice Antony Siopis on Thursday granted the injunction, and Mr Johnston was given until midday (WST) on Friday to surrender any passports in his possession.
A Federal Court spokesman said Mr Johnston had complied with the order.
It is understood Mr Johnston did not personally hand in his passports but that legal representatives delivered the documents to the Federal Court in Brisbane.
Mr Johnston is reportedly staying on the Gold Coast, where he and his wife have a property.
Firepower was wound up by the Federal Court in August 2008, leaving its 1,208 Australian shareholders between $80 and $100 million out of pocket.

FYI...
An unknown number of foreign businessmen, believed to be in the low thousands, arrived in Russia from all over the world during the early and mid 1990s to seek their fortune and to cash in on the transition from a communist to a free market/capitalist society. This period was referred to by many of the businessmen as the "second great gold rush".
Generally, 1990 to 1998 was a wild and unstable time for most foreign businessmen operating in Russia. Dangerous battles with the Russian Mob occurred, with many being killed or wounded. The Mafia welcomed the foreign businessmen and their expertise in facilitating business and making things happen in a stagnant and new economy. The Mafia considered them as a good source of hard currency, to be extorted under the usual guise of "protection money". Many different Mafia groups would fiercely compete to be able to "protect" a certain businessman; in exchange, the businessman would not have to worry about having more than one group showing up demanding tribute from him. Many foreign businessmen left Russia after these incidents.

Firepower boss Tim Johnston wants passport back
DISCREDITED Firepower boss Tim Johnston will apply for the return of his passport so he can travel overseas for business, a judge has been told.
Last week, the former Perth-based businessman flew into Brisbane after reportedly spending the past 18 months in London.
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) moved swiftly on news of his arrival, successfully applying for an injunction to prevent the globe-trotting businessman leaving the country.
In the Federal Court in Sydney today, Justice Antony Siopis was told Mr Johnston's two passports had been lodged in compliance with the judge's interim order.
Appearing via video link from Brisbane, Mr Johnston's lawyer, Timothy Carmody SC, foreshadowed an application to modify the orders to allow ``travel for business purposes''.
Mr Johnston, who was present with Mr Carmody in the Brisbane court, is reportedly staying on the Gold Coast, where he and his wife have a property.
Justice Siopis listed ASIC's application, to stop Mr Johnston leaving the country, for hearing on December 21 in Perth.
Mr Carmody said he needed a month to prepare affidavits for the hearing, material which would include information from London and Bali.
