The Melbourne Rebels who will join the Super 15 in 2011 had a mixed day on Friday as they lost their chief executive but signed two players for next year's Super 15 rugby tournament.

Veteran All Black Greg Somerville has joined the club after announcing last week that he would be leaving Gloucester where he has been playing recently.

Joining Somerville is former Highlanders captain and Newport Gwent Dragons second-rower Hoani McDonald.

The addition of Somerville is significant as he will join Waratahs and Wallabies hooker Adam Freier and Reds tighthead Laurie Weeks in the front row.
