I was all for Raelene Castle's appointment when it was announced. She wasn't the conventional choice of an ex-Sydney Uni player or another old school mate of someone on the board; she was going to be a breath of fresh air, bringing in ideas from another country, another code, and with a different, not so Sydney-centric view.
There were some who said she would be nothing but a puppet of the board; and even some who said that everything at the Bulldogs wasn't so rosy and the ARU should do more due diligence on their selection. I assumed this was jealousy.
Looks like I was wrong and the naysayers have been right about pretty much all the above. As a CEO Castle appears to be a rubber-stamp for Clyne and the board. I've not heard the ARU come up with a single idea which wasn't already being considered before Castle's appointment; there's no evidence of any ability to consider rugby which can't be seen from the top of the Sydney Tower; she's handled both Forrest and Folau poorly; and she's toe'd the party line about: "Stronger as four", "More money for grassroots" and "Oops, sorry, no money available".
