There was a similar suggestion on Planet Rugby but WJ's idea is a lot more fleshed out than that one was. Personally, it's a little complex for my liking...
is it complex, i mean each country plays there own tournament, then accfording to where you finish you play off for another one!
every country gets a home season, you can sell each comp with a different sponsor and name.
then each combined comp could have its own sponsor, you get three grand finals, alot more games at home etc etc,
i think it has alot of merit, as i said previously, i didnt come up with the idea, but its the one i like the most.
i would love to see a full australian home and away season with an aussie champ crowned!
and then after the tahs take that trophy to play for the super rugby crown would be awesome!
I think it's just cos I've never been a fan of second group stages (e.g. the cricket world cup). Just personal taste.
never though id say it but WJ thats a great idea, better than the OP's one at least.
ive always felt that the next 6 teams to miss the final are hard done by (and their fans) by not being able to have a play-off series themselves, just a simple ladder system would do, 5 plays 8, 6 plays 9, 7 plays 10 and then the top four teams (three winners and closest loser) play a plate semi and plate final.
so thats 6 more games to watch on top of the semi finals.
we could call the Australian leg the "Super ARC"
