AFL owns the licenses of Sydney ; GWS; Brisbane and Gold Coast (basically Sths, Fitzroy, Footscray, any team that fell over)
WAFC owns the licenses of Fremantle and West Coast.
The AFL wrestled control of SA licenses away from SANFL in the deal to construct the new Adelaide Oval
All other Club licenses are owned by the Boards at the remaining 12 clubs.
The AFL can revoke those licenses in extraordinary circumstances - as nearly happened to Essendon.

Good luck maybe they'll trade their way out of it.

The extra $800 000 will be a great help with RugbyWA turning losses in the last few seasons. A better way to generate income though would be win some games and put bums on seats.

Club licences are different to the IP property.

In theory if the AFL wanted to they could of stripped Essendon of their licence and started another side with the same colours and moniker and run it from head office.

Whether it's a short term thing or ends up being a long term gig, we have 800k more to play with. Maybe it will help implement some different processes or provide more resources to existing ones

Does this mean that the ARU will regularly advertise the WF apparel on its website?

Obviously you need to get out more if you can recall that! I was just snooping around looking for cheap Christmas options.

    Maybe a few less stats

Will be keeping the WF ruck stats coming this year. (As I like to know who is putting in the effort)
From the trial games I reckon we'll see more than the normal ~20% ruck engagements coming from the WF Backs.

Will be posting the Aussie Derby games on G&GR.

Got it in one - winning teams attract converts. At the moment the Force have a dwindling crowd, and at best the easy option will be to start charging them more.

Not sure about that - only under extraordinary circs (like the doping). However, a few more seasons of losses, and the financially strapped Union will have the opportunity to call that license in, as the Force aren't able to support themselves. The bailout doesn't even cover an average season's losses, and the Force have failed at this stage to make any headway into the AFLcentric Perth public and media.
Footy can afford an outpost in the south (Peel), as the Dockers/Eagles make moolah, but the signs are that the ARU can't afford the Force much longer.

could that be because of all the money they've thrown at the tahs and the reds in recent years?

Aside from the actual bailouts, to the tune of millions of dollars, not 800k, there are all the wallabies lured back from overseas and straight into the east coast squads. How often has that sort of thing turned out in the forces favour?

The ARU can't afford to lose the Force.

Force go guts up then the ARU have one less game to sell to TV networks so they'll have to either give money back to the network if it were happen before the current TV deal ends or negotiate from a weaker position with only 4 Australian games to sell, less when there's a derby game on.
