i had a similar conversation about the depth of out back line with my cousin on Sunday.. he also seemed to think we didnt have depth. but i pointed out that.
1)Giteau can play 9, 10 & 12 & probably 11 or 14 too if needs be.
2)Staniforth can play 11, 12, 13 or 14
3)Cross can play 11, 12, 13 & 14
4) Mitchell can play 11, 14 & 15
5) Cummins can play 11 & 14 & i hear he has a mean boot too so lets just add 15 in there too
6) Pelesasa is back soon and he can play 12 & 13
7) Haig Sare is back soon and he can play 11 & 14
8) Scott Daruda can do 10 & 12
9) Sheperd can play 11, 14 & 15
10) Haylett-Petty can play 11 & 14
11) O-Connor can play 10, 11 & 14
12) Mackay can play 10 & 12
13)Hilgendorf can play 10, 12 & 13
14) Tatupu can play 12 & 13
15) Stannard can play 9 & 10
so breaking it down we have
at 15 - 3 options
at 14 - 9 options
at 13 - 5 options
at 12 - 8 options
at 11 - 9 options
at 10 - 6 options
at 9 - 3 options
ok so our weakest links are 9, 13 & 15 based on numbers.
if we lose gits, shep, stanners, mitch & crossy
we still have Daruda, Cummins, Mackay, O-connor, Haylett-petty, Pelesasa, Sare, Hilgendorf, Tatupu, Stannard, O-young
Cummins, Mackay, Daruda, Pelesasa, O-Young, Stannard & Sare have all had decent game time.
nuff sed
I'd be inclined to leave Haylett-Petty and O'Connor out for the moment - they have the skills, no doubt, but I don't think their bodies would be physically ready for S14 yet and I'd hate to see them pick up a career long injury because they were started too early.
Only other note is that Hilgendorf made his name in the NPC as a fullback, and he was our first choice in that position in the first year before injuries pushed him into the centres.
Absolutely - certainly doesn't seem to have done Cummins any harm..
