Joondalup claims Under 16 title
By RugbyWA Media Unit
Under 16 premiers: Joondalup
Joondalup has upset the previously undefeated Palmyra to lift the 2013 Under 16 Bankwest Junior Rugby Trophy.
In a low-scoring encounter at Curtin University’s Edinburgh Oval, Joondalup outside centre Kane Steiner crossed for the only try of the match to secure his side a 5-3 victory.
Palmyra, who defeated Joondalup 37-12 in the two side’s previous fixture this season, led 3-0 at the half-time break through an early penalty goal to inside centre Trey Moloney.
While the minor premiers had opportunities to extend their advantage through the first term, the defence from their northern rivals remained intact.
Nine minutes into the second term, Moloney chased through a clearing kick out of his own quarter from flyhalf Preston McPhee to touch down for the only five-pointer of the match.
While Palmyra had the opportunity to steal the victory through a mountain of late field position and several penalty goal attempts in the second half – including one on full-time, they were unable to find the required two points allowing a euphoric Joondalup to take the title for 2013.
Joondalup 5 (Kane Steiner try) defeated Palmyra 3 (Trey Moloney penalty goal)
Was Pally down players? that's a significant turnaround if the article is to be believed.
C'mon the
This is true, in fact Joondalup were down to 14 for most of the last 10 mins, a fully great deserved win. It gives JB 4 Junior Gold championships this season! Say what you like but this giant is not sleeping!
I guess 7 of Palys starting 15 a s opposed to 4 from Joondalup playing in the Under 16 game against Wanneroo 18's the night before might have had a bearing. The under 16 trophy has some interesting wording on it..or used to.
Well done on the victory but not to sure how you get to 4 Gold championships for Joondalup

I'm guessing that the 4 Joondalup gold championships came at U11, U12, U15 & U16. The U11s & U12s didn't have a playoff series. Does that make their achievements less worthy than the older boys? As Bill Shankly said, the league table never lies and all 6 age groups deserve their success based on the competition rules that were plced in front of them.
It's not surprising as Joondalup & Wanneroo have a huge amount of strength in depth as they & NCS are the only clubs in the northern suburbs.

I suppose you can count it that way
Does that mean that Wanneroo won 5 Gold and 5 Swan championships
