    bit harsh i think....
if it has become so common as you suggest....then there wont be too many clubs left in the competition left to play. the front row club is a really good idea. there was a front row clinic run this season out at pally and perth i think. more of those would be good as the competition needs good young props coming through!!

what have done at the moment is use our two 5th grade props and an 18year old hooker.....they have not been a powerhouse to watch but have been effective in getting the job done.

well i agree a uncontested scrum is NO SCRUM so if all else fails that there is no one at all for a front row replacement then they should be no replacement at all. So if we are not to play the full game of union (contested scrums) then we do not field the correct numbers to call it a game. It is the responsibility of the club not the administrators to have the correct numbers of specialized positions covered.

Ask a certain oceanside club that lives on a hill about the use of non-contested scrums!

We've got a new lake behind the clubhouse but I wouldn't call it oceanside.

Rockingham (The home of Prop Kieren Longbottom could be called an oceanside club and have moved to Lark Hill this season, I hope it's not them!

There's a pretty proud tradition of hard forward play in the Wallaroos (sometimes a little overly hard) so I wouldn't expect them to use uncontested scrums. I would think there'd be a fair bit of angst that they don't measure up before that move is taken.

Not that I know all that much about anything above under nines. I can assure you MiniGIGS's team contests every scrum we're allowed to (and some they aren't.....boys will be boys!)

Give it a rest, boys. No self respecting team goes uncontested unless there is no other option.

I recall a depleted Southern Lions team continuing contested against us with an 18 year old hooker called in after they lost two front rowers through injury, some years ago. The poor kid was out of his depth and faced serious injury, despite his courage.
Mickle and I spent most of the remainder of the game pushing back and bracing against our own second row to protect him, at the same time giving him tips on front row engagement.

In this case going uncontested would have helped us, even if it was the opposition who had the front row problem.

These problems come up and go around in all clubs. Show a little compassion and understanding.

Isn't Cott where AJ Whalley is playing? Can't imagine he or the Force Coaches would be too happy about uncontested scrums.

Never at Wanneroo, every game I've played in it's always been the other teams decision to have them. We always find someone to put in the front row. Heck I even played second row for a while, must have been the only 5 foot 7 second rower ever, well one that wasn't playing under 12's anyway.
