Given that SANZAR is seemingly going to put their foot down in regards to the Northern sides sending pissweak teams (more so then usual) when we send close to full strength sides North in the Spring, this is no one's fault but the Northern Unions and their clubs. Problem is the clubs own the players not the National union so the club must release the player for internatioanl duty, it's becomming like Soccer.

The IRB should just get it's act together on a world wide international window, obviously not easily done as it's said.

Scrap the northern tours and expand the Super 14 pr get the Super 14 sides playing against some quality opposition, I wouldn't mind seeing the Super 14 sides take on some of the lower ranked nations that don't get as much game time either, they played a few agmes against Samoa, the first of which without the test players was quite competetive i think (in 2006), I don't remember what the crowd was like, but i don't think it was too shabby
I went to the Samoa game and the crowd was good. I agree the Northern Hemisphere tours should be scrapped. It sets the world cup up for a much more unpredictable and entertaining competition every four years. Just stick with an expanded super 14 and tri, quadrilateral, pentagon, hexagon or however many sided comp they end up with. "The Hexagon Nations", would get plenty of hits from math geeks anyway.

They've got their six nations it's time we had ours.

^ And a tour every few years wouldn't go astray. South Africa tours Europe one year, New Zealand the next, Australia the next and then World Cup. You have to play them sometime, why not make it an old fashioned Lions-esque tour.

Not unless they were making it well worth our while. This isn't about the aesthetics of the sport - what has SANZAR pissed off is weak teams coming down here and getting lukewarm sales, then the ABs (for instance) go up there and sell out Stade de France or Twickenham.

well i know the ARU used to get $1million every time they played England in England. This was a dodgy deal done a few years ago between the RFU and ARU, dont know if it is legit these days or if it still exists.

but IMO that $1million makes it worth it.

compared to that $1 million what does the RFU etc make in revenue when the Wallabies/All Blacks/Saffers play up there?

i believe the deal was with one of the broadcast companies over there, if the ARU could get the Wallabies to play in England every year they would pay each union $1million, im guessing the RFU also took the gate takings and any extra broadcast money.

i think i read it in JON's book, it was a dodgy deal because at that stage unions werent supposed to negotiate deals like that, it was supposed to be organised through the IRB.

In regards to revenue (gate takings, extra broadcast money etc) you would have to assume it would be a bit of coin. If the deal isn't in operation you would think the RFU would take the threat of scrapping end of year tours seriously
