This makes interesting reading!
Oh dear. Maybe they should ask Gary Grey, Tim North, Bill Pulver and Rob Clarke for a hand out. Rugby Union has given each of them so much that maybe it’s time for them to pay it back(wards).

When the Financial Officer has maybe done a runner and you won’t release your financials, that raises some question marks on your stability. The ‘crystal ball’ remark sounds like they’re already fishing for a handout.
I see the Rebels are going to sign Will Skelton.....

How can they afford it? Well the Rebels component of his salary will probably be $1 ( ironic much ) and the rest is a Wallaby top up

The Rabble charge local clubs $500 a game for their players to play when they aren’t required no wonder there is no attachment between the clubs and the professional side. It also explains why players are turning out in the Shute Shield instead of their aligned Melbourne club.

The chairman denies this:The Melbourne Rebels are aware of various media reports released this morning questioning the Club’s financial stability.
We have worked very hard to establish a clear identity of what our Club stands for and constantly strive to make Melbourne proud. We know that like all of our competitors in the Australian sporting marketplace, we operate in a very cluttered market which is a constant challenge to our business. We have a very experienced Board of Directors who are all working hard to ensure we are solvent and successful long-term.
At the same time, we are concerned by some of the misinformation within today’s media reports. We categorically reject that the Rebels receive any financial payment from our local Rugby clubs for any contracted players participating in local club matches or appearances. It is very disappointing that we even have to address such unsubstantiated rumours which are entirely in conflict with the entire ethos of our Club and code.
We remain in constant dialogue with Rugby Australia regarding our business and high performance plans and remain very confident of a bright future for the Melbourne Rebels.
The truth may set you free, but only evidence convicts
“bright future for the Melbourne Rebels.”
Doesn’t a meteorite get really bright just before it explodes?

Clever choice of words - they may not have received any but that doesn’t mean they don’t ask for it.
And as for being disappointed that they are even having to address these “unsubstantiated rumours” - maybe they should have briefed their patsy CEO better before he gave his interview.

Soooo.....the CFO (Chief Financial Officer) has resigned. This is the executive position that oversees the veracity of financial transactions, not the Treasurer (a Board position). And suddenly rumours and innuendo are floating around about shenanigans.
Nothing to see here...move along
