OK, there might have been a fix in place, but it wasn't a very effective one since the Cowboys took the tap and scored a try.

I say let natural justice take it's course. If the boys were doing it on their own, they found out how ineffective that is. If they were paid off, then they'll mysteriously turn up to training with a broken leg.

Plenty of circumstantial evidence that there was a fix, alright. Very obvious who the evidence points to as well. Can anyone prove anything? We'll see, but I wouldn't bet on that one.

For mine, I'm 99.9% sure that there was a fix. Have been since day 1. Just didn't come off and that suggests Cowboys players were either not involved, or just plain dumb. Or both - just to save GIGS' slagging the mungos.

Thurston does look like the dumbest person on the planet but as the fix can be set up to take heavy money, you can do the opposite and let the bookies clean up.......very financially rewarding. Let the punters think a fix is on and the heavy bets pour in. A lot of money gets collected at the bookies. A few envelopes under doors. Looks clean on TV. takes the tap in front of the posts. Not a jury in the land can convict him..................but it stinks. Heavy money for the first scoring to be a penalty goal for two teams that had no chance of finals and wanted to score meat pies to get the fans back next year, when penalty goals are now as rare as hens teeth in minileague.

That's not far fetched at all, when you think about it. Given that some of the bets were placed as early as Wednesday - now that is dumb.

Bet none of 'em thought there was a chance in hell of being sussed on CCTV. Good move by the NRL to call in an ex chief stipe. The coppers would probably still be trying to figure out where to start.

Only problem with that premise is that the bookies were the ones who alerted the cops (afaik) if they cleaned up, then why tip them off and have the profits seized?
