"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!" - Rocky Balboa

see u there around 8
I think everything thats starting to happen is very exciting indeed. An expanded comp plus a 25000 - 28000 seat MES. If the MES upgrade does go ahead then i think you would see some ex members come out of the woodwork. All of this would just about be all the business model RugbyWA would need to put forward to League and Soccer to really get a good coalition together ( as well as 10 to 15 concerts and other events ) to push for an extended upgade to MES to maybe 35000 seats. That sort of capacity would be great for finals football. Very exiting
Japan and the Pacific Islands for Aussie Super 9's!
Let's have one of these in WA! Click this link: Saitama Super Arena - New Perth Stadium?
Currently if all 3 rectangular sports were to share a dedicated rectangular stadium you would have 6/7 game of Rugby, 10/11 games of Soccer and 12 games of League.
With the expansion of both the Super 14 and the A-League (2 new sides likely to get the go ahead from 2009-2010 season) imminent and with the NRL looking for a return to Perth by 2011-2012. Depending on the nature of the Super 14 expansion whether it's to 16 everyone playing each other once with the derby rounds at the end before finals or the 26 round with an 8 team finals series, which ever model is chosen you could potentially see between 8 and 13 games of Rugby within 2 years, 13 and 14 games of soccer, and if NRL goes ahead with it's plan 12 and 13 games of League, the amount of times a Rectangular stadium would be used goes from 28/30 to 33/35 (based on Super 14 only expanding to a 16 round season, a conservative approach) POSSIBLY as much as 40 times. Now with the government keen to get every sport at the MPS, that would meam ALOT of re-configurations.
Surely a business case for a dedicated stadium exists, i dare say it's looking better then the business plan for an oval stadium, if not now then in 2/3 years. But then it gets back to the government wanting everyone to play at their White elephant in order to justify it.
Its definately not like the Government in this state to plan anything for the future, or they just have to get out of the "tahman" position they have for the AFL
Wll then they can organise itlike they do for AFL and have them play on different days
Soccer can be Fridays, Union Saturdays and League Sundays or if League and Union play home games on alternate weeks then they can still have Soccer first game of the weekend and League/Union after so that Soccer can take advantage of the flatter field. Problem solved!
Soccer is currently August to Febuary, just as the A-League is wrapping up it's season the Super 14 is only in week 2/3. And expanded version of either competition may see some scheduling conflict but not alot
Pity - would have loved to see a justification for the Waikato surface.
It incorporates synthetic fibres into the surface (see Waikato Stadium - Facts and Figures). With continual NZ rain right up to game time, a hard fought match showed no effect whatsoever.
Hmmmm might have to have a read of that when i get home
