The Queensland Rugby Union has confirmed Reds and Wallabies scrum half Will Genia will join Western Force in 2013 #rugby
from what_the_ruck via twitter
wow, good news for a change
I think it's pretty obvious I deserve 50 praises, and by praises I mean Western Force wins!
Very happy with this news, and only half because I'm pissed.
Gooooooooooooooo force!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There's one for you Jombi, just in case.
this in my opinion is a masterstroke, strong pack, quality scrummie = potential to draw a top 5/8th and coach and with it a genuine chance at the 2013 title....
Cooper may want to follow Genia..
Genia will bring some strong leadership and direction in the backline......something we seriously lack back there atm.
Id take Cooper in a flash. Like Pocock said tonight post game.....we lacked creativity in attack. The time is now to push for a crack at the finals over the next couple years.
I can also confirm from listening to 990 AM on the Radio, that Pocock has 're-signed' also for beyond 2012 with the Emirates Western Force..
I can quote "On a great day off the field, I can confirm that the Force have resigned Pocock and joining him is Wil Genia for the 2013 season"
Fantastic news! But yes please don't sign Cooper. We don't need that crap here, we only just got rid of Brand JOC! I like the concept of following up on Peter Grant, we almost got him last time and he's improved since then!!
A marquee fly-half will only stay around for a year. We need a bigger investment than that.
Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.
Is it just 2013 that he has signed for? If so, I would be a bit concerned about his intentions. He has been mumbling about going to France after the Lions tour next year.
This is also a bit interesting -
"Last night, Genia was taken aback by the news sweeping Australian rugby like a bushfire.
"I haven't signed a thing yet. I don't know why it's getting announced on my behalf when I haven't put pen to paper," a perplexed Genia said"
And this is what Reds CEO Jim Carmichael said -
"This organisation is not going back to being broke. He's loved and revered in Queensland but he's also a professional sportsman and the opportunity presented to head west was ultimately more appealing to Will," Carmichael said."
I'm wondering if this is sounding a bit like what the Force did with JO'C last year.
Either way, good luck to him and the Force but in reality, I would be concerned if its only a 1 year deal.
The Reds have plenty of other half options including Nick Frisby who is electric and Benny Lucas.
