Once the little old ladies can turn thier heaters on again all will be going swimmingly.
did the world go mad while i was offline this arvo?? jono is talking about serious stuff
welcome to world of Politics jono, look at what both sides offer and vote for whichever suits you more and hope there are enough people in your electorate and the state that will agree with you
We're doomed, doomed I tells ya!!
I wrote an erudite response about the cult of personality in politics, which led to Westminster leaders - ie British parliament - being the main topice of debate at the last Scottish elections, and how most people wouldn't know their local candidate if he/she came up and kissed their baby, but Internet Explorer is deciding to make my life a misery at the moment, so it didn't post...

Also, jono (and others): DON'T VOTE ABOVE THE LINE in the Upper House.

yeah, but now he has called it. what are we going to do as the petition cannot be presented in parliment.
Letter write.....lots.....to all the candidates...ask them their position on the rectangular stadium...then we post them here and let the voters decide..
Any chance we can ask for the petition back and to give it to parliament again, after the election? I dont understand the concept of how that works.
Jono: there is no point getting so worked up about this, I know people are passionate about their politics and what they believe, but one pent up 18 year old is not going to cause enough ripples for them to change. All the topics/issues you mentioned are high priorities and of course money needs to be spent for something to change, but the pollies have their own ideas and we dont have a whole lot of say over it.
In the mean time we need to push for something we might have a chance of being heard about, so be passionate about your state and politics and your voting decisions but just remember to show your passion when its needed most...when it comes time to voting and having the best person for the job at hand.
(I dont quite know if that made sense, but it did in my head.)
Barry House has been in touch already to let us know that he will hold the petition and has reiterated that it will be presented once parliment sits again.
As far as the stadium is concerned we already know the governments position (obviously), the opposition is still to release thier stadium policy, and I'm not going to pre-empt that here, hopefully we will here it soon, it will depend on where its going to fit into thier campaign- they can't release all their policy in the 1st week (and especially not the next 2 weeks, since it's going to be drowned out by the Olympics). Once it is released we will need to go over it and formulate a response pronto, and make sure everyone knows it.
Other stuff, as Gerry mentioned, contacting all candidates and getting thier views on record will be important. Will be working on a letter for this, emcompassing various other letters/press releases/speeches and a bit of new stuff re:election.
