Guys your arguments are getting too long to read. Why don't you just skip ahead and summarise them. Here I'll start you off: Mudskipper has a big man crush on GIGS20 who isn't remotedly interested but will call back if he ever develops a love of masochism

Thumbs up Brumbies upbeat about upcoming season

If the Brumbies prove to be as enthusiastic about playing as they are about training, they're in for a bumper Super rugby season.

Wallabies hooker Stephen Moore became the latest player to make an early appearance when he turned up at their Canberra training session on Friday, even though he's not due back until Monday.

Boom prop Ben Alexander, who consolidated his starting spot in the Wallabies scrum, also wasn't due back until next Monday but lobbed up one week early.

With Wallabies skipper Rocky Elsom and Matt Giteau - who was this week the sole Wallaby named in Rugby World magazine's team of the decade - among the new recruits, Moore said there was a buzz in the air.

"There's a good buzz around the whole group and around the community in Canberra," he said.

"It's a credit to the organisation the squad they've assembled for this season and it's up to us now to make it all happen."

Moore stayed behind in the UK after the Wallabies' European tour and was on the bench for the Barbarians match against New Zealand at Twickenham.

"The tour was great and I enjoyed it a lot," Moore said.

"The body feels really good, I had a month off and the niggles have subsided and I'm feeling really fresh and looking forward to what's ahead."

The Brumbies-laden Australian scrum won praise for its performance on the tour and Moore predicted even further improvement from his teammates.

"We took a lot of steps forward last year and the boys can take a lot of confidence out of that and we can continue to get better this year, that's certainly the goal.

"If we can be one of the best set piece teams in the comp than I think that's within out capabilities."

Former Canberra boy Giteau, Elsom - who missed last year's Super competition to play with Irish club Leinster - and fellow Test stalwarts Adam Ashley-Cooper and George Smith are due back at training on January 18.

The squad will play two pre-season matches against the Hurricanes in Wellington on January 29 and the NSW Waratahs at Canberra's Viking Park on February 4 before the season proper kicks off in Perth against the Force on February 12.

Moore, who is in his second year with the Brumbies after switching from Queensland, said it was important the side hit the ground running to improve on last year's seventh-placed finish.

"It's a great squad but we'll still start the season on zero points like every other team so it's going to be hard work if we're going to do well in the competition."

The Brumbies will head to Jervis Bays HMAS Creswell naval base next Wednesday for a three-day training camp.

I thought the "Brumbies laden Wallaby scrum" was a good one, The most consistent lineup for the pack this year would probably be

    1 Benn Robinson
    2 TPN
    3 Ben Alexander
    4 James Horwill
5 Whoever was fit at the time
    6 Rocky Elsom
    7 David Pocock
    8 Cliff Palu

    I only count 2 brumbies
    3 Tahs
    1 Red
    1 Forceman

and a bunch of Locks due to injuries, I'd not call this pack anything laden, but if you're going to make any call it would be Tah Laden.

I guess you caould talk about Chisolm, Kimlin and a bunch of other fringe players who showed their faces, but then you'd have to talk about Mumm, Sharpe, Brown, Hodgeson and a bunch of others, so In my book, no matter which way you slice it the pack was pretty eclectic......Journalists never let facts interrupt their train of thought.

    Arrow Brumbies ready to excite

    http://sport.iafrica.com/news/2153742.htm

The two-time champion Brumbies are looking to reproduce the exciting rugby that saw them at the top of the Super Rugby try scoring stakes and won them a couple of titles.

Brumbies coach Andy Friend, speaking to iafrica.com as his team stepped up their pre-season preparations after the festive season break, spoke about his team's determination to play a "different" style of rugby this year.

In their golden years between 2001 and 2004 - when the Brumbies won two titles, finished runners-up once and were beaten semifinalists - the men from Canberra easily managed 45 tries or more a season.

In 2004, when they won their last title, the Brumbies scored a massive 55 tries in their 11 league games - a handy average of five tries a game.

The last two years, when they finished ninth and seventh on the table, they managed just 36 tries in 13 games - under three tries a game.

It was their ball-in-hand ability that made the Brumbies such difficult opposition and an exciting team to watch.

Friend said they are going to use the pre-season matches - against the Hurricanes and Waratahs - to establish the changes they are planning.

"The role of the pre-season matches is to test the players 100 percent," Friend told iafrica.com

"No player at this point in time is guaranteed a jersey - their performance on the field is vitally important to their selection," he added.

But the change in game plan will plenty of attention as well.

"It [the pre-season] is also to cement our game structures.

"We are playing a different style of game this year, definitely [different] from what we played last year.

"[We will] try to keep the ball in hand a bit more, so it is to bed down those shapes and structures and the style of defence we want to put in place."

Friend, who is in his second season as head coach, feels they have the structures in place that could see them return to the winners podium in 2010.

"It is the second year with out current coaching structures and that is definitely going to help us.

"We've made some very good acquisitions in the course of the off season and we've pushed some of the young academy guys through.

"For us it is certainly exciting to work with the talent we have here.

"I see this as a tremendous opportunity for us, given the talent, given the squad and where we are at as a coaching group and the style of game we are going to play."
