I agree with Rex. These blokes have got to have mana -- been good at what they're teaching -- to get respect from the players.
Not really. I'd rather have a coach who had to learn the game than one who was a naturally gifted player. If you're a natural, you can't teach others to play the way you did, because you didn't have to learn yourself.
A 2nd-level player who worked at his (or her) game to make it to the top level is who I'd want as a coach.

You'd rather have a player who a star or one who had to work really hard to make it? Put it this way, which of the following would you rather have as a future coach: Matt Giteau or Matt Hodgson?*
[* For all I know, Giteau may be a great coach in the making, but he doesn't seem like one to me.]
