20 I think Rex. Have to be resident for four years before being eligible for citizenship I think these days!

Citizenship doesn't matter. IRB policy states 3 consecutive years.

Reality is that WA just isn't attractive to many ES people and I honestly feel that's part of the problem we have recruitment-wise.
Agree we've got our challenges location wise 9,10 or 12: I really don't mind where they're from NZ, SA, Aus, as long as they're proven performers in their position and committed for the right reasons (no prima donas) Coach: a leader/motivator/pragmatist with strong track record.

While I appreciate it's all doom and gloom at the moment, and the lack of success in terms of winning games is exceptionally light on, may I point out that there has been a (relatively) significant number of players recruited by the who then went on to honours? And one would expect Charles to be imminently next.

It could easily be argued these payers would not have had the opportunity to shine in front of the selectors from the bench in a different Super Rugby team or from clubland.

So there has been some good to the franchise grant, no?

Ecky - you are right, sometimes I wonder if we are impatient.

I think the frustration is not necessarily the losses but the inconsistencies.

Its clear that the Australian club and provincial players are not up to the standard as NZ and SA as well as there being a depth problem.

NZ can afford to lose players to Japan and Europe but Australia can't.

ARU must devise an effective strategy to develop and retain players in Australia from upper teenage years onwards.

The concept of a provincial competition below super rugby level and above club level has to be the answer whichever way you look at it.

Bring back any rugby competition which adequately straddles the gulf between Sydney club rugby and Super Rugby!

I'd even be OK with it being based in the Eastern states if it helped us to develop some of our talent to the requisite standard!
