Avatars and their meaning.

You reminded me to get a photo.

I chose a pretty iconic photos that some of you will have seen before. Our family friend's grandfather is in the photo.

This is 'a group portrait of the original officers and men of the 11th Battalion, 3rd Brigade, AIF. The group of over 658 soldiers are spread over the side of the Great Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops) near Mena camp.'

Visit Gallipoli | The Anzac Landing at Gallipoli | First to Fall This site has a fair bit of information on the day including a list of the soldiers who died on April 25th, 1915 the very same day that most of them first arrived on ANZAC cove.

That is a beaut, I have tht at home all framed up (as does Happy). There is actually a dead solider in that pic. His mates carried him half way the pyramid and are holding him upright for the photo.

There was also a competition (not sure what) btween the soliders to see who would be sitting the highest, which there is one above everyone else, but when you look to his sides you can a few sneeky others that have climbed almost to his level.

This pic was taken in Januray 1915, just three (3) months before the landing at ANZAC Cove.

I think that this Soldier deserves a mention too. All Soldiers, do but Captain Annear in particular as he was the first to fall.

I drag out this avatar every Anzac Day week. It's my units badge which we wore on our black beret. B Squadron 3rd Cavalry Regiment.(Royal Australian Armoured Corp)
Our unit served with distinction in Vietnam and especially the battle of Long Tan.
One of our members was awarded the Military Medal for his services in the battle.

Quiet appropriate that TLH is a "Veteran" on TWF isn't it.

It was the Salvation Army he was in though, not the 3rd Cavalry

I found out today that my friend's granfather is at the top left. The three blokes off to left by themselves. He is either the one on the right or the left of that group, not sure but he is definately one of those three.
