Libs to increase sport and rec funding

The Liberals today promised to more than double funding to community sport and recreation facilities if elected.

Shadow sport and recreation minister Barry House said funding for the capital grants program would be boosted from $9 million to $20 million a year under a Liberal Government, for the next four years.

“Local councils and community groups will be able to apply for funding for infrastructure projects ranging from installing synthetic greens and floodlighting to upgrading public swimming pools,” Mr House said.

Mr Barnett was in Bunbury yesterday announcing this and also $1million for our local AFL oval and support for athletics track. It is good to see libs actually seeing funding sport as a election issue I think we need to slam them hard about stadium issue!!!

Hi Mr Barnett,
What is your parties stance on the stadium proposal. Will you continue with the $1.1 billion stadium that will take until 2016 to complete and only be ideal to one regional sport or will you act to use that money to build a stadium to satisfy both oval and rectangular sports. In regards to this does Members Equity Stadium have a future under your government seeing as the current government has withdrawn the $25 million upgrade promise given by the Gallop administation.

Hmm, i dunno if that's a good thing, we want to seem as concerned members of the general public, it looks, like, as well as mentioning you're from WNC, that it is purposely an opportunity to get our views across, like it's orchistrated.

Labor has announced plans to build world-class sporting facilities in WA, with construction expected to get underway in the next term of government if re-elected.

Premier Alan Carpenter said that WA had not seen such a surge in the construction of sporting facilities since the lead-up to the 1962 Commonwealth Games held in Perth.

"We are in a time now where we able to, if we apply ourselves, apply world class sporting facilities which will serve the community for decades to come," Mr Carpenter said.
