Nedlands will be paying $60K minumum to support its 1st grade team with player payments, recruitment costs (airfares etc), cars, rent etc.

Their 19 year old fullback was offered $7,500 of inducements to go to Nedlands instead of Kalamunda after he returned from NZ after having played his juniors at Kalamunda. Or so his father told me.

Maybe I'm a bit conservative on the $60K and Zed's $100K is closer to the mark given the amount Nedlands also pays the Force guys to be loyal to them.

Oops, forgot, they are all Neddies homegrown lads who just want to put something back into the community, help with the juniors, sell hot dogs on game days etc!

Clubs like Rocky just can't match the recruitment budget and thats why they are at the other end of the table.

Since time immemorial rugby clubs have organised work for new players and jobs for the boys and incentives. It happens in country towns. It happens in metro clubs. It's part of the rugby networking culture.

If your club can't organise blokes to get good jobs or current players to make a space for an apprentice etc etc then your club sux ass .

How many players in the club? 4 grades. 22 players in each team? Extras? Coaches?......$60K divided by at least 100 blokes............small change per head

A club like Rocky doesn't have dozens of guys able to "chip in" a grand each for players. Most members are working class guys who have a few bucks left over each week for a beer or three and thats about it. They don't as a rule own businesses where they can take on employees to help the rugby club out.
