Thats sounds a tad painfull and like you need some of Sheps' lollipops. Hope its not too painfull anymore.

I have no good stories, I only have one scar and have had my arm broken 3 times though and I fell through a jetty but no scar only a splinter.

“Let me put it this way, A Springbok team contains Afrikaners, Englishmen, coloureds and blacks. It has parochial foes in Bulls, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions. It is a recipe for war! Yet in all the years of John Smit’s captaincy, there has never been one unhappy customer, not one voice of rebellion against his leadership. He is the glue that holds the Springboks together. The man is a legend!”- Jake White

I was little and the jetty had a hole, i didnt see it and one leg went straight though. All I got out of it was a splinter and then I got ice-cream so it was all good.

You make it sound bad. Right arm broken at the elbow & shoulder at once. Then left wrist.

I think mashed finger, 20+ stitches and 3 months rehab is much worse!!

i remember when i dislocated my sterno-clavicular joint ( collar bone joint on chest ) playing wa under 16s, it hurt like hell but only took 5 weeks to recover .......

simultaneous broken elbow and shoulder wins i reckon

well, today marked the 6 week point of my recovery which meant that the splint holding my hand in its locked position was finally able to come off. i am now able to start using my left hand again for ultra light tasks and cannot load it with more than 500 grams or i risk rupturing the tendon again. one thing i wasnt prepared for though was how lame the muscles in my wrist had become after 6 weeks of inactivity. todays 2 hour therapy session was pure torture. the exercises the therapist put me through to start the wrist regaining movement were more painful than when the finger was crushed between the half tonne of steel.
but on the bright side its now only 6 weeks until the tendon regains full strength and majority movement and is back to a level where fulltime work is possible again.
the only bad news is that it could take up to 4 more months until the full range of motion returns to the finger after the severe crushing it suffered. also the nerve damage could take up to a year to repair so im just going to have to be patient and keep plugging away.

    cheers

When i used to be a beef boner (butcher in an abattoir)for all those with dirty minds) i once stuck my knife an inch and a half into my left forearm, funnily enough it didn't really hurt too much even when i pulled it out as i stabbed under my armguard and once i pulled the knife out it (the armguard) acted as a compression and stopped the bleeding. However, that all changed when i went to go to the nurse and the foreman wouldn't let me out of the boning room wearing the armguard, so he asked a mate to grab some paper towell and proceeded to lift the armguard off the hole, not realising how deep it was and that a backlog of blood had pooled under the skin....The explosion of blood was absolutely awesome, and excrutiatingly painful at the same time, and my mate with the paper towell was covered in blood and my knees buckled and i think i called the foreman a few nasty names as i was escorted to the nurse...
I also got stabbed in the arse with a knife once as well, that bled a heap too, but didn't hurt nearly as much, it was actually quite funny, although worksafe would not have been happy how it occured...

To true, did f-all for me, as i raised my arm the knife slipped under the guard, fat lot of good it was...The best part about working with knives is i always have sharp knives at home....I used to sharpen my ex partners knives for her, (she's a chef) and she had the sharpest knives in her kitchen (she almost cut the top off her finger at work one day and blamed me for making razor sharp blades)......

    hahaha, yeah.
its a curse i think. i have to have every knife in the house as sharp as i can get them.
which is why when i left lenards i made sure i took my stone and steel. seeing as i paid for them. and there not cheap!
i have a mesh glove somewhere as well. surprisingly it has actually come in handy

Maybe you should wear it when you're sanding stuff so you don't cut your finger again?

well, where do i start .......
after noticing that the repaired finger had swollen quite badly and i had lost movement in it, i went back to see the surgeon. i was hoping to hear the words 'its an infection, take these, you'll be fine'. instead the surgeons words were 'holy shit, you've re-ruptured your FDP (or flexor tendon). this is highly, highly unusual, especially at 10 weeks'. now i mention 10 weeks because all up the rehab on an injury like this is 12 weeks and only last tuesday the surgeon had given me the all clear to return to work in 2 weeks. of 400 + similar repairs the surgeon had done im only the 4th patient to have a re-ruptur occur. 1%, 1 fucking % .... don't you love how cruel life can be??
anyway, had a minor explorative operation last night and am facing a 2 part procedure where the surgeon puts a rod through the finger and grafts a new piece of tendon from my wrist onto the finger. what should have been 3 months recovery is now going to be between 6 and 9 months in total.
