Absolutely fabulous decision! At last it's good to see an assertive and positive decision being made re the future of rugby in Perth. Hopefully this should have some positive spin offs for those not familiar with rugby in WA and want to have a peek at what the game is about and how good the atmosphere can be if you are 'up close and personal'.
YAY!
my dad reckons that because at the moment we average about 25000 crowds, MES would look packeda better sea of blue
sorry if this has aredy been posted, i was away

Currently MES only seats about 17,500. We've beaten that in every game we've played, so yes...the sea of blue would look a lot more squishy. This does, however, highlight the need for the state government to upgrade the facility in order to fit the crowd.
The $50,000,000 proposal really only caters for just over our average crowd you know!

we need 35k to make MES viable. we will get that at games now we are in a proper stadium...
You'd better start on the letter writing them Jono
32,000 seats will apparently cost $100,000,000

do either of you think that 25,000 seats is going to be enough for western force games at a dedicated rectangular stadium?
Alot of that will depend on the team's sucess.
We'd expect an uplift on last years (and presumebaly this years) crowds given the rectagular stadium, but if this season were to go the same way as last year, then I hazard a guess, for the most part yes, 25k will meet demand (perhaps not for marquee games e.g. vs other Aussies teams or the Crusaders or so forth)
If the team makes the semis this year, then there'll be a huge upswell in demand due to the stadium and then additionally, the bandwagoners.
In the end, if we're pulling (at least) the same crowds as at Subi, and paying less rent, it's financially a winner, and a better experience for fans to boot.
As has been posted elsewhere - in 2008 we only went over 25K once out of 7 home games:
Force v Crusaders,27011
Force v Stormers,24225
Force v Bulls,21161
Force v Waratahs,22287
Force v Chiefs,21549
Force v Brumbies,21350
I would have throught teh Australian team clashes would have been marquee games, but they were pretty much equal lowest with the Bulls
Dear Lord, if you give us back Johnny Cash, we'll give you Justin Bieber.
even though the upgrade will be good, would wallabies games still be held at subi-whacko stadium???

hear hear! I concur, well said jargs.
That is the essence of it all. If the smallest crowd at subi-yucko in 08 was 21k plus then its fair to think that the smallest crowd at a decent venue (ME with upgrade) will be almost as good as the top crowd at subi in 08.
A new venue should generate a bit of exitement, especially with superior viewing.
Corporate boxes aside, I wouldn't mind betting that the worst seat at ME (as it is configured now) is as good as, or even better than the best at subi-yucko. (especially the shed, although I imagine it cant remain as it is as the area will be needed for seating- pity though)
One can ony hope a better refreshment deal than the one foisted upon the club at Subi is struck.
It will be a challenge to figure out the membership classes and pricing... but its all good.
