On that basis, does he? Vern has now really tied himself to the success of Foley and the new structure. He doesn't really have any alternative but to get right in behind and support it. That would not be true of someone brought in now - in fact, he would almost have a vested interest in stepping well back as it wouldn't be his initiative (a la JO'N and the ARC).
Foley's biggest problem is going to be backing from the board/RWA/Vern etc.
They employed Mitchell because he was a hard nosed bastard who got results and as soon as he got hard with our little precocious princess he got pulled in.
I sincerely hope that the same doesn't happen to Foley.
May the FORCE be with you!
I liked Mitchell
He got results
he trod on a few underperforming toes
Controversy corner
You are right of course, the fact that 2 clubs at this level on 2 different continents have stood him down because of conflict between him and his players means there really must be serious problems with his player management skills.
Let's put to bed once and for all any suggestion that Mitch return to the Force in any capacity, it would only end in more turmoil and drama.
As head coach perhaps, but if there were some way he could be afforded to run an integrated development program and associated ARC team....
I had my doubt over Graham at the first pre-season match in Darwin. The Brumbies looked switched on, organised, and almost ready for the coming season. We looked like a scratch team who'd only met in the changing room.
And Graham saying he didn't want to run any set plays because we were playing the Brumbies in the first match of the season. Then, in the first match we still didn't run any set plays that I could see!
RG was one of those people that was promoted beyond his abillatie. IMO
Now he's working under Link he may have results.
I think it used to be called the Peter Principle.
May the FORCE be with you!
