Yes, a bullshit generalised statement, borne of the kind of logic that brought us 'we grew here, you flew here", last demonstrated by a bunch of drunk bogans running riot around the streets of Cronulla, with another lovely reprise from the folks in Manly last week.

It also deliberately confuses two issues- 'intinerant' workers, who were just here to make a buck and bugger off anyway and couldn't care less what happens here regardless, and the folks that are here to stay, who recognise WA's many charms, but can also see where it falls behind.

Unfortunately "the hat" gets foisted upon anyone with a different opinion around here.

yeah, this thread has been hijacked, its meant to be about how wonderfull the waratahs are and has ended up being about perth! damn you people are selfish! rugby exists outside wa you know!

Hate to say it Swee but you have just used almost every classic generalised put down known to Australia.

"drunk bogans" = class generalisation
"same kind of logic" = you are just the same
"deliberately" = there is no chance that you haven't thought about the difference, when in fact there is a chance
"where it falls behind" = Perth isn't good enough


One of the things that breaks my heart about Australia is the divisions within it. The Us vs Them mentality. It keeps on cropping up everywhere I look. One of the saddest places I find it is between our "best & brightest"/intellectuals and the rest of our society. It always comes through in any discussion about what we can see would be a positive change for our society.
Unfortunately this division seems to always lead to any proposed improvements being delivered with an underlying insult.
One of the things that we need to understand is that we respond to being lead forward, rather than driven by punitive expressions.

Yeah, those guys were real class acts. Terrorising families who'd come for a day at the beach is clearly their perogative, and no pseudo-intellectual has the right to tell them otherwise. Pul-lease. Being drunk was possibly the best excuse they had for that sort of behviour.

No, just an acknowledgement that while it is a nice place, Perth isn't perfect (nowhere is!)- if it were, we'd have a rugby stadium for one!
