Just wondering...With the combination of points for a try, conversion, goal and bonus - has anyone ever worked out if there is a number which is not possible for the result margin to be?

Any margin is possible, with the number of possible ways of getting there increasing with scoreline. The lowest scoring ways of getting margins are (I think):

0: 0-0 (no score game)
1: 6-5 (two penalties against unconverted try)
2: 5-3 (unconverted try vs penalty)
3: 3-0 (one penalty vs no score)
4: 7-3 (converted try vs penalty)
5: 5-0 (one unconverted try in game)
6: 6-0 (two penalties vs no score)
7: 7-0 (converted try vs no score)
8: 8-0 (unconverted try and penalty vs no score)
Etc.

Basically, a team can't score 1, 2 or 4 points in a game. Any other score is possible.

[Note: I'm sure someone knows some arcane law where you can score the above, but I've not seen one.]

I see it's up to 5 now. That must be the closest of close shaves.

It's like toothbrush "technology" - how much better can you make a toothbrush, but changing the size and angle of bristles etc etc.
