Passchendale is sometimes referred to as Third Battle of Ypres by the english, but was always Passchendale by aussies. Passchendaele was a battle often reffered to as epitomising the horror and futility of the first world war.If you fell off the duckboards pictured you drowned in the mud.
My Grandfather and his half brother both fought at Ypes.
My Grandfather was 17 having lied about his age to join up.
His half brother was at Gallipoli before being shipped to France.
