Brendan McCullum and Ben Stokes are hypocrites.
I had to go for a drive last night to get my 2 year old to sleep and the coverage had Allison Mitchell and Alistair Cook at the time and Alistair Cook was still being critical of the Bairstow dismissal, some Pommy fellow jumped on during the discussion (I didn't catch his name) and said "The people who whinge about the spirit of Cricket are the same people who ignore it when it suits them."
The Ashes: Brendon McCullum's chequered history with the spirit of cricket
Saint Brendon copping a few well deserved whacks around the chops from his countrymen over at Stuff NZ.....guess he won't be buying them a beer anytime soon.

I guess we'll just have to live with that.

What odds Stokes doesn't make the 5th Test?
He is clearly carrying a pretty serious left knee injury and was in serious pain during the 2nd.
It really felt like adrenaline and pride kept him out there.
Looking at a picture of them training and he is heavily strapped up.

Would probably depend on whether the series is live by time the 5th test rolls around. His knee has been heavily strapped up all series, I'd say he will play as a specialist bat and not bowl before being left out of the XI completely.
Shit poker face!!!

A skipper leading from the front as our tail was again being the pest.
He's gone up in my estimation since being captain. In the aftermath of a disappointing end from his perspective, he was respectful to Cummins & his men. He mumbled the same bullshit as the other Kiwi to the journos but that's nothing unexpected. Be interesting how the Headingley & Old Trafford denizens react. They will give us heaps but I think under it they will know Bairstow was a fair cop.
Absolutely, would have to agree re raised respect level.
His strategy is yet to be proven at the ultimate test (small "t") but his conduct has certainly improved.
Re the crowds, in reading recent media it would seem that the prevailing view is English crowds are terrifying to visitors and galvanizing to the home team.
Personally I don't think the Aussie XI could give a flying crap what is being hurled at them by a mob of pissed, pasty halfwits cooking in the sun.
The difference in reaction to the Lords Members was around it being at close quarters and potentially/allegedly physical, not while they were on the field, and frankly the Members should have been above that behavior.
It would have been interesting to see what the reaction from the Long Room was if the stumping had occurred in the first session of day 1.
I think anywhere that has atmosphere ultimately ensures both teams lift.

In the meantime, the Women's Ashes might get wrapped up tonight unless England can win the 2nd T20. They essentially have to win all the remaining matches (2 T20s and 3 ODIs) to stop a 5th successive Ashes win.
Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
A poll from the Pommy Mirror-
Should Jonny Bairstow's controversial Ashes dismissal have stood?
Yes - it was a fair wicket 44%
No - the ball was dead 16%
It was out, but against the spirit of the game 40%
