He was advised that he wouldn't be getting much time. Pretty sure they are after Peter Grant who Zack replaced
and who is Luke's backup?
I'm all for the perth boys getting a run, and think Ryan is playing better as a 9 than Alby at the moment.
But I'd like to know who we have on the bench should they get injured.
When Sias is good he's very good
The problem is, he's rarely good.
Shame they didn't try Burton at 10 when this season was clearly over. Would of been a good indicator of his ability at S15 and allow the coaching staff to determine if it was worth playing him at 10 in the NRC in preparation for a 2016 start or backup role at fly half.
Burton has played at 10 for Australia in the under 20's
i'd say it's his prefered position and the NRC gives him some time to get more to grips with it before the next round of super rugby starts
Lowrens at 9, Burton at 10, Goodwin at 12, ??? at 13
What we need is a big bugger at 13 in the Mortlock 'go over them first' style
I wonder if we could run Kane Koteka at 13?
Steve Mafi at 13!
Peter Grant would also be a marquee, wouldn't he? He's played for the Springboks
Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
I think this is a good call as long as he can be replaced. Personally I think they should do the same with Steemkamp as we need more out of a marquee player.
So we are losing both our 10's which surely the club was aware of. We need another lock to replace Wykes and there is whispers that Steenkamp (from the GAGR forum) has also been told to look elsewhere. Not good planning by coach and/or management.
Beggers belief then why Foley didn't give Burton a shot a 10 when our season went south. In the most critical position. Foley obviously believes he is a centre.
Non sunt multiplicanda entia sine necessitate
Yeah sorry meant extended time. Given him a start and let him run the backline from the get go and see how the game unfolds with him at 10 in a couple of games in succession. Could that have been worse than Sias or Holmes?
Anyway, it's a concern IMO when a lot of players seem to want to leave or be pushed our the door when their doesn't seem to be a player already signed or ready to put pen to paper to fill the void. Hopefully this isn't the case and their are a couple of locks, 10's and centres salivating at the prospect for playing for us next season.
Non sunt multiplicanda entia sine necessitate
Out of all the Saffas bought in, Eberson, Steemkamp, Stander, Hieberg, Alcock,Van Wykes injured first up so can't be counted only Brache is the one who you could say was worth the time and money.
Those that can't command a starting spot are a waste of resources. Heard there is more on the way, we better hope they are a bit better than this lot.
Wests Scarborough 1st Grade juggernaut has played finals rugby each and every year since its inception and continues this remarkable feat yet again this season and unbelievably it's still rolling on and as an added little circle jerk for the masses Wests actually hold the record for the current longest unbroken finals record.
Grant is getting on a bit now so probably not the best choice. He left La Rochelle for "family reasons" He has family here, his parents were here I think, but would he want to come here when his family home is Cape Town? He would have to be a marquee player and we already have those unless its true about Wilhelm. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
