ok, normally i wouldn't bother you with things like this, but i'm so dang proud of the locals, i just hafta put it out there: Fresno State Bulldogs are NATIONAL CHAMPIONS in collegiate baseball... not so exciting, maybe, until you consider that of the 48 teams that qualified for the collegiate tournament, Fresno came in seeded 48th.. on paper, they had not a snowball's chance in hell.. 2 of our best hitters suffered from 1) a completely torn thumb ligament, which will know have to be rebuilt with a piece of ligament from somewhere else, and 2) 3 dislocated fingers on the glove(left) hand.. Who says baseball players ain't tough? luckily baseball isn't played on paper. They are the lowest ranked team to win a collegiate championship in ANY sport, EVER.. The boys took out one national powerhouse after the other, Long Beach State, Arizona State, North Carolina, Rice University (crazy name huh,,) and Georgia... Comparatively speaking, this is an underdog story on par with, oh, the Soviets defeating the U.S. in the 1972 Olympics in basketball, or say, let's imagine Japan (or the U.S.) winning the World Cup in Rugby... AGHH!! Big parade today, people coming together in a way that only sports seem to be able to achieve.. good times...![]()

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
Congrats tc9....what a great effort by the team. I play softball and i know it aint easy to play with dodgy fingers...i'll bet the celebrations are going to last for awhile![]()

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!" - Rocky Balboa
Wow! a 48th seed winning it all. That is amazing. I'd bet that will never happen again. Don't let that one player fool you though, baseball players are whimps.

yeah it's one for the books, that's fer sure.. but larry, those injuries happened to two separate guys - 3rd basemen (multiple dislocations) and right field (dangly thumb) so there's at least 2 tough baseball players out there- not exactly the nhl, but maybe it's a start...
