Western Force and Wallabies No.8 Ben McCalman will venture into unknown territory during the 2016 Super Rugby season.
McCalman joined Force training this week after a stint with Japanese champions Panasonic Wild Knights that came on the back of a tough World Cup campaign.
He is one of only four players to be handed a flexible contract by the Australian Rugby Union that allowed him to play in four campaigns without much of a break.
The other three are Israel Folau, Bernard Foley and Christian Leali’ifano.
But McCalman, whose game time was monitored closely by former Wallabies coach Robbie Deans, who is now in charge at Wild Knights, said he had returned refreshed after a two-week break from rugby.
He starts a new three-year deal with the Force this season and expects to play his first match in round three against the Brumbies at nib Stadium on March 11.
