Reds taking cue from the Blue Crew

    http://www.super14.com/news/viewarticle.asp?id=25361

not the main focus of the article but i had a laugh when i read this...

"Meanwhile, the Reds are looking to recruit the loudest and proudest fans they can muster to get behind the team this Saturday at Suncorp Stadium.

The first 200 fans to sign up for the official Reds cheer squad at Ballymore from 4pm today (Wednesday) will receive a free ticket, shirt and bandana for the Bulls game."

Do you think the "Blue Crew" made a difference at the games? I was in the Blue Crew for the first game, and was told in no uncertain terms to sit down, and not make so much noise!!!..WT???

Yeah there was an entire block devoted to it at Subi, City end, behind the posts.

It was generally populated by people looking for a cheap night who didn't know anything about rugby or supporters of other teams who couldn't be arsed buying a ticket.

They weren't popular on here, because they were the mob that got hyped when the real supporters were the ones creating atmosphere. You can tell the difference now we're in a stadium where the Blue Crew don't fit. the atmosphere isn't lacking one little bit!

Not sure how it'll go in Qld either, can the Reds afford to give tickets away?

I prefer the current situation where the empty seats are offered to junior clubs who play a curtain raiser of Walla Rugby, clap the boys onto the field and then cheer for the rugby with parents who at least know something about the game (They're usually seated in the close rows of my block and it's a pleasure to have them!)

probably work out a bit different for the Reds, i cant imagine it will be populated by people who dont understand rugby, probably filled with people really keen on the game

Reds have paid their money to use the ground for a start so I don't see where your original question comes in.

People getting in for free may (although doubtful) may in future buy tickets or even buy tickets, it would depend on whatever arrangement the Reds have with the people regarding catering. People who may not buy a ticket may spend money on Beer

i believe that for every ticket, they need to give 2-4$ or something to the transport authority, as they usually involve free public transport on them.

So they get people there, but it may cost them..
