LISA CALAUTTI, The West Australian August 26, 2009, 1:14 pm
The City of Perth wants to extend its northern boundary to Bulwer Street to improve its capital city status.
Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said the current boundaries constrained the city's ability to enhance its vitality.
As part of the council's submission on local government reform, it has proposed the city's boundary be drawn along an 'appropriate radius' to allow it to control the range of facilities expected in a capital city, considering its role as a centre for commerce, government, culture and education.
The council hopes its call to include areas within the Town of Vincent in its borders - a request first submitted to the Local Government Advisory Board in 2006 - will be considered.

OK, so moving the boundary north to Bulwer Street would sort of make sense, and maybe I'm just being paranoid and seeing conspiracies, but MES is on the south side of Bulwer Street.
Maybe this is a good thing, the City of Perth would have more money (and probably more political clout) to development MES and the surrounding area than the Town of Vincent, but are they as willing?
I assume there is some form of cash grab involved here

more people to charge rates to?
Geez, local politics is BS. How long ago was it that the City of Perth included Cambridge and Vincent, and parts of Victoria Park?
Get rid of the lot of them, and State Governments.
The whole of Australia is smaller, population wise , than the State of California, and has a smaller economy.
"Smaller economy", fair few fall into that category Fulv, California is around 7th or 8th largest in the world as I recall from last years travels...
"Bloody oath we did!"

Most interesting times coming up in relation to amalgamations of local governments.
Especially the likes of the City of Perth, and Towns of Vincent, Vic Park, Cambridge amongst others. Not Shire of Peppermint Grove but - so Colin says.
Even Meeka shire is allegedly in the firing line Burgs
