Giteau to sit out Reds clash
13th April 2008, 11:15 WST
Western Force five-eighth Matt Giteau has been ruled out of next Friday's Super 14 derby against Queensland after suffering his third bout of concussion this season in Saturday night's 17-12 loss to NSW.
Giteau was cleared of any structural damage to his neck or head at Subiaco Oval on Saturday night but club medical staff on Sunday scratched him from next week's Suncorp Stadium clash.
The Wallaby star was knocked senseless and taken from the field in a neck brace when he attempted a front-on tackle on Waratahs fullback Sam Norton-Knight in the 20th minute.
Force medical staff have ordered Giteau to stay off his feet until Wednesday, when he will be checked by a neurosurgeon in Perth.
The Force have their bye after next weekend's Reds clash and Giteau is expected to return for the game against the Chiefs in Perth on May 3.
"The system is that each day they review the levels of headaches, clearness and such," Force coach John Mitchell said.
"But we will make sure we certainly won't risk him and look after his welfare which is foremost."
AAP
at least there doing the right thing for his health.
hope he recovers well and runs through the chiefs.
SOMEONE PUT LACHY IN COTTON WOOL AND BUBBLEWRAP ALL WEEK!
If we can't beat the Reds with their current injury list without him, then Giteau is the only reason we're a successful rugby team!

Glad to hear Gits is getting a rest. That many concussions in a few weeks isn't good!
Good luck to the boys in Qld....here's hoping its a walk in the park!!
Gits has been smashed and bashed over the past few weeks (if not the season) hopefull 2 weeks off will see him back better then before.
Lachy stepped up quite nicely last night after Gits went off
Still think he's been off for a few weeks really, the week off might be good for him. He just doesn't seem to have been challenging the line at all, and he's the best ball runner in the world, if he's distributing the ball at 10 rather than running it, we're surely going to be under pressure!

This is gonna sound bad, but i reckon that if ever Giteau ever had to get injured, he chose the right game to do it. Cos we got the Reds and then a Bye the following week. So he can have a 2, almost 3 week break.
Not to put down the reds, but they have lost Latham and Cordingley to injury at the moment. And apparently, Digby Ioane is out as well. I think we could give MacKay a go again at flyhalf, and he was convincing at that position on sat night. So i'm not as worried as i should be.
I'll be in Singapore with some mates on friday, so i'm gonna check out the Singapore branch of the Western Force Supporters Club and watch the game with them. I remember reading an article in the papers about them.
The title of Captain Rattle Brain may need to be passed on from Elton to Gits.

I made Happy sad...
Or he can stay in Perth...I will watch the game with him!
I guess if that's the case Drew Mitchell would have to be our 'enforcer'.......the mongrel bastard thug that he is! that late hit on the fingernail of Lachie Turner was sickening, he almost ruffled poor Lachie's hair!
I reckon he should get six weeks for it myself, but maybe my brain is just frozen!![]()
