RUPA President, Adam Freier, welcomed the appointment of Greg to the position. “Greg's knowledge, experience and achievements in Australian sport are unique. We are delighted that he has taken up the challenges of this role“.
“Through his previous appointments at the Western Force and at the Rebels he has extensive relationships and networks in the game and is well respected by all stakeholders”.
“We are confident that his skills and his knowledge of the broad Australian sporting landscape will bring much to the role which RUPA plays in the management and development of professional rugby in Australia”.
Harris said that he was excited by his appointment and confident that RUPA would play a valued and constructive role in the new directions which Australian rugby will take from 2011 with the introduction of the new Super Rugby format.
“Rugby has always been known as a player's game and I am delighted with the opportunity to represent the professional players and their best interests”.
“I look forward to working with the Board of RUPA and the player group as a whole to ensure that this occurs and that the players can make a substantial contribution to the game of rugby in Australia both on and off the field”.
Greg's appointment will commence on 2 August 2010.
