Teenager dies after sent home from hospital
A 17-YEAR-old boy died after staff at Sydney's Campbelltown Hospital twice told his mother to take him home following a school rugby accident.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports Kundai Chiundiza, a student at St Andrew's Cathedral School, died in his sitting-room yesterday after being told he was suffering from nothing more than a bruised sternum.
The teenager, originally from Zimbabwe, was playing fullback for the school's First XV on Saturday when he was shoulder charged during a tackle against St Gregory's College.
His mother Grace said he was taken to Campbelltown Hospital after he began vomiting on the sidelines and was prescribed a painkiller, but she found him dead in the lounge about four o'clock yesterday.
Police and Sydney South West Area Health Service are investigating the incident.
R I P. Very sad to hear of such a young man dying like this...!!!
How very sad! Condolences to the family and friends
thats tragic,
those doctors shouldn't be practicing medicine, as if they knew how to do it properly, a young boy would still be alive.
condolences to his family and friends
not all doctors are correct with their diagnoses. its just one of those things and its quite rare but tragic news for this family. rip
Be There. Be Heard. Be The Force Behind The Force
the problem is that it sounds like no diagnosis was made at all.
A Nurse friend of mine that lives in Albury told me that it sounds like they did not follow procedure at all, at least from the media reports and we all know how the media tend to gloss of inconvenient truths.
you'd think the second time he came back they might investigate things a bit further...
pretty disturbing
Accidents and mis-diagnosis happen - I only hope that the mum, particularly as an immigrant, didnt feel too intimidated to question the doctors or insist on futher examinations...
Hey we went to PMH 5 days in a row and they said my son had gastro and stop coming back each day. On the 6th day they told us they'd do a scan to "shut us up".
