RugbyWA Media Release
Matt Hodgson has undergone surgery for a fractured cheekbone
Emirates Western Force flanker Matt Hodgson has undergone surgery in England overnight to repair a fractured cheekbone suffered during the team’s 48-7 UK tour loss to Leicester.
The 27 year old had been one of the WA side’s best throughout the campaign, playing in every match on the five-week tour.
Emirates Western Force team doctor Mark De Cruz said Hodgson suffered a depressed facture of the cheekbone which required surgery.
“Matt was placed into surgery overnight and has had a plate inserted to reinforce a fractured cheekbone,” said De Cruz.
De Cruz said Hodgson will be fit to return to full training early in the 2009 pre-season.
“2009 pre-season training kicks off on October 6 and at this stage Matt will be looking to resume full training on or about that date, give or take a few days,” said De Cruz.
A small portion of the Emirates Western Force tour party will arrive home in Perth during the early hours of Wednesday morning (WST).
