Bugger
Good luck to the lad; he never quite made it at S14 level, but was a good bench player. Hopefully he'll spend a few years up there and come back south to try again, but there are plenty of Aussies making a good living from European club rugby.
One question Jauzy, I'd heard that French rugby was considering a rule about capping the number of foreign players. Has this been taken up? And if so, is Biarritz cutting anyone to sign Haylett-Petty?
For each french club in 2010/2011, 40% of their players must come from french clubs academies (= 40% of their players must be french). If you have a squad of 30 players for example, at least 12 must be french.
It will be 50% in 2011/2012 and 60% in 2012/2013.
Jauzy - does a player holding a European passport be classified local?
With DHP and Haig Sare going, we are going to need 2 new outside backs. We currently have Shep, Cullet and Spanner to start, and Bart on the bench.
Id like to see a young bloke picked up (like 19, 20, 21), and maybe someone else in their early 20s who has a season or two under their belt.
Spanner and Bart will probably retire at the end of 2011, so we need some players with experience to take over.
Farva - you are so right and we have an Australian Sevens Player in our comp. Get Zack Holmes. Just teach him to pass, put that with his speed and with some more experience and he'll make the grade.
remember we have a couple of other options such as
Fairbanks, Hunt and Rapana.. if Ripia signs then we should only really need to be looking for 1 more back... Dane Neilson??
Good on him, it will be much better for his development as a top player, also an amazing lifestyle. And i'm sure he will be back as a Wallaby contender for the 2015 world cup.
A huge loss from the forces point of view though!
Why would you stay in Perth and play 13 games a year?
He'll play alot more rugby in France but it will shorten his career by a good few years. Think the boks play on the cusp of the rules. People lose testicles playing against the french, ask Buck Shelford.
Maybe he'll see the light and see out his career in Japan. Gregan was still getting payed rediculous dollars last season. Playing in a team where some blokes don't get paid and still have to go to work each day.
