Go West Young Man!
So now the Western Force is a reality.
For better or worse, the first few fixtures have been played and the people of Western Australia have got behind their team like no other Australian State or Territory.
22,000 Members say that the Force is here to stay.
It is now almost 100% guaranteed that all the Force Squad players will remain in Perth for the entire year and, if not on tour with Representative teams, will be playing in the Perth Premier Grade Competition.
Now, if you are a young second string rugby player on the East Coast reading this, here’s the no-brainer piece of advice for the year!
GO WEST YOUNG MAN!!!!
Follow the lead of those who have already made the move, come to Perth, Western Australia and make yourself a rugby career.
The Premier Grade Clubs are falling over themselves trying to sign talent from the East Coast for this season and why not, it’s a win-win situation.
The Club concerned and Western Australian Rugby benefits as the standard of the game increases. This in turn gives a greater exposure and experience to our locally born rising stars to help fast track their careers.
And you win because you get to come to an amazing city full of hot chicks, beautiful beaches and a great climate.
You will be almost assured of a start in the Premier Grade team, so long as you keep your powder dry.
You get to present in front of one of Australia’s four Super 14 Coaches, who is only one step away from your Wallaby selection.
You have a far greater chance of turning out in the inaugural Australian Provincial Championships or, at the very least, get a jersey in the defending champion Perth Gold XV in the Australian Rugby Shield.
So what are the downsides?
Well, you will have to leave your mates behind for a couple of years, unless they are rugby prospects too, head over as a crew!
You will have to leave home, what 18-23 male doesn’t want that to happen anyway?
No more nagging mother on top of your morning hangover!
No more judgmental looks from father when you let that skank out the side gate in the morning!
No more brothers pinching your threads!
You may have to put your studies on hold…when you get snapped up by Mitch as an Apprentice.
Seriously, what could possibly be better if you are genuinely looking to create a future in rugby?
Stay in Sydney and compete with 70% of Australia’s rugby population or head to the West Coast and join the new groundswell of Australian Rugby, have an adventure and retain the right to head home if it doesn’t work out?
