yesterday after work i raced to the shops b4 rugby training to purchase what has been something i have been looking forward to for quite some time - RUGBY 08 on playstation2. it is the world cup edition of the game and i had high expectations for it!
i was surprised to get it for a price of only $59, as most new sporting games cost around $100 when they 1st come out. upon finishing training i raced home to get my 1st taste of this game i had been hanging out for. i started out by jumping straight into an exhibition match - force vs the junior all blacks. luckily i checked the squad selection screen because this is where the laughter began.
ok 1st thing i notice is that pelesasa is starting 5/8 - what the...? then i find that ryan cross has a rating of 51, pretty miserable rating as most players are at least 75+. there were numerous other mismatches that bemused me but the worst was the actual game itself. they have barely updated any of the features and almost all the animations are the same as rugby 06. but there was one bit of reality that had me on the floor laughing - as cruel as it may have been. with about his fourth touch of the ball lachie mackay went down and laid on the ground behind play. i didnt see what happened but once play died it zoomed into him to show him rolling around clutching his knee - i couldnt believe they had stuffed up the team selection so badly but were able to make one such player as injury prone as he is in real life
all in all rugby 08 is a big letdown in terms of making an improvement on its predecessor but i guess you get what you pay for. i think i will continue playing rugby 06 with the boys after trainings from now on.
