When I moved to Sydney, all those years ago, my new drinking buddies encouraged me to join a local rugby club.
I lived in the western part of Roseville, so the nearest clubs to me were Gordon RFC and Chatswood RC.
When I approached one club, the first question which they asked me was "Which school did you go to?".
When I approached the second club, the only question which they asked me was "What do you want to drink, an Old or a New?".
I went with the second club, which was full of other interstaters like me who had not gone to one of the right schools on the North Shore.
Nothing much has changed on the North Shore, it seems.

You needed a third choice that drank real beer (hint: not xxxx, Tooheys or VB)
The long sobs of autumn's violins wound my heart with a monotonous languor
