Perth Gold have finished their unbeaten tour of the east coast with an impressive 23-12 win over the ACT President's XV in Canberra last night.
Hooker Joe Egan started the scoring for the Gold when he dived on a loose ball after the ACT's attempt to kick their way out of defence was charged down. James Stannard was unable to convert the try, and a converted try to the home side gave the ACT XV a 7-5 lead at the break.
In a flowing game played at good speed, the Gold began to make their dominance at the breakdown and scrum count on the scoreboard when Perth-Bayswater halfback Curtis MacLean darted from the scrumbase to score a second try for the WA team.
James Stannard scored the third try when he finished off an outstanding backline movement to cross out wide. Stannard also added two second half penalties to lead the Gold to a 23-12 victory.

The ACT President's XV went down to the Perth Gold 23-12 last night at Greenway Oval. The Perth side, fielding players from Western Australia's rugby academy and Perth's club rugby competition, gave a glimpse into the potential strength of the Perth Spirit squad that will play in the inaugural Australian Rugby Championship later this year.
ACT President’s XV head coach John Ross had anticipated a tough encounter, and was impressed with the attacking skills on show last night.
"These players were drawn from several different clubs, and while some of our attack was great, our work at the breakdown last night was identified as an area we can impove on" he said.
While the result shows there is work to be done before the ARC begins in August, Ross says the match was an excellent experience for the players involved.
“While the loss is disappointing, it's great to provide an opportunity to a lot of the younger guys to play at this sort of level," he said. "It’s always good to recognise players who’ve been playing well, as well as providing an opportunity for younger players to test themselves at a higher level,”
"A majority of our team were under 21, with a number of the players new to grade rugby, and matches like these are a great bonus for the players involved and will hopefully play a role in their rugby development.”
