Focused Tuqiri set to explode - Rugby - Fox Sports
A LETHAL new Lote Tuqiri is set to finally be unleashed by the Waratahs in the first round of the Super 14 against the Hurricanes.
Coach Ewen McKenzie is confident his star winger will be available for the game at the SFS and there are no concerns he has missed the team's three trial wins.
"He has done a really good job in the off-season, he is such a different player from last year because he was distracted with contract stuff," McKenzie said.
"This year he is very football focussed and has been in really good form at training."
McKenzie revealed that besides squad training, Tuqiri has also been doing extra sessions to boost his fitness.
Tuqiri's return will be a big bonus for the Waratahs, with rising back Lachie Turner describing his presence as "massive".
"Any team with Lote in it I think is a much better side, he just gives such a confidence boost to everybody," Turner said.
"If Lote is playing then it usually takes two guys to stop him and that means there is somebody else somewhere on the field who is unmarked.
"I benefited a lot from that last year, without him on the field I'm sure I would have had a different season."
And Turner said he is really looking forward to seeing Tuqiri running around under the laws introduced into the Super 14 this year.
With Sam Norton-Knight still recovering from a thigh injury, Turner will be named fullback for the Hurricanes game. McKenzie said Turners' strategic game in Thursday's trial win over the Crusaders, particularly his tactical kicking, was outstanding.
"He did the right things at the right time, for a young guy he has done well," McKenzie said.
Big signing Timanu Tahu may not start at outside centre and is a candidate for the vacant wing spot along with Alfi Mafi, Matt Carraro and Ben Jacobs.
Tom Carter, Sam Harris and Jacobs are jostling for No.12, but Harris could continue in his successful role as replacement five-eighth for Kurtley Beale.
"I think Sam Harris has done a good job adding impact particularly in the second half because he has a very good running game too, so he changes the way the game can be played for us," McKenzie said.

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
well they got the finally bit right i spose.to finally be unleashed
*snort*
Success is not final, failure is not fatal:
it is the courage to continue that counts.
- Winston Churchill
I'd prefer him to remain leashed (I'm pretty sure Sam Norton-Knight might agree with me!)
as for him being lethal....I reckon that term could only be accurately applied to lote after curry night atif he indulges in several large helpings of extra hot vindaloo and washes it down with VB!

Explode = Brain Explosion!?
It's a pity to see a young talent like Turner thinking Lote is the be all and end all....hopefully it's just a ruse to get a place in the squad....I don't think we want him to aspire to be like Lote...
I don't have a problem with it as long as he cleans up after himself.![]()
Just happy to be here
nice camel toe in that avaTAH.
It's not just before the world cup that we hear this. It's before every season, and usually about half way through every season as well.
I think it's more likely the case that the journalists can't think of anything to write, so they copy and paste an old article from last year, ring up Link and get some new, updated quotes, and then publish that.
Surely the 'Tahs would keep faith with the squad that has been unbeaten in the 3 pre-season matches instead of bringing back some overpaid, unwanted ex-mungo liability.........just a thought!!!!
CHEERLEADERS ROCK!!!
why does everyone hate lote
It is the way of the Force grasshopper. Yin and Yang. Hate Lote we must so that love we can, mmmmm ....
I don't hate Lote. I just wish that he'd do what everyone is saying he's going to do.
Certainly a case there for not living up to expectations....Across the board, ie Wallabies and Tahs...
Proudly bought to you by a brewery somewhere....
My God!!! I think I might actually agree with ya IQ!
I really think I'd like Lote if he was anywhere near as good as his reputation...even if he does play for the 'Tahs, I mean I stilll have high regard for players the ilk of Gregan, Larkham, Latham, Smith, Vickerman....they all play for the enemy!

I feel the same way about one of the force players. Can't remember which one...![]()
