Diehard Hurricanes fans will be asked to dip into their pockets twice next year if they want to dress like their heroes.
In a none-too-subtle move to boost sales, apparel sponsor adidas will sell an away jersey for the five New Zealand Super 14 teams for the first time.
To lift the profile of those jerseys, which retail for $150, it has insisted each side wear the new strip when they are not at home.
For the Hurricanes that means it will feature in their away games against the Reds, Chiefs, Crusaders, Lions and Force next year, but not the match in Durban as it clashes with the Sharks' jersey.
The Hurricanes away jersey - grey with some black around the shoulder - is remarkably similar to the jersey the All Blacks wore in their ill- fated World Cup quarterfinal match against France last year.
The playing kit for all of the New Zealand franchises has been revamped with the Blues jersey changing in tone to a blue similar to Northland's.
Adidas general manager Greig Bramwell said the "product overhaul" includes new casual wear such as tracksuits and sweatshirts in the teams' colours.
