EIGHT members of Sri Lanka's national cricket team have been reported wounded after gunmen opened fire on their vehicle in eastern Pakistan.
Pakistan Cricket Board security official Nadeem Iqbal said the team members were hurt today near the Lahore stadium where they were being driven to play.
Sri Lankan team manager Brendon Kruppu confirmed the incident and said batsman Kumar Sangakkara was among the injured.
Sri Lankan Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge named two injured players as Tharanga Paranavitana and Thilan Samaraweera and said they were taken to hospital in Lahore after the shooting.
Skipper Mahela Jayawardena was slightly wounded in the foot, his father told a local television station after speaking with him by telephone.
The team bus came under fire as the players headed to the Gaddafi stadium for the third day of the second Test against Pakistan.
``We are assessing the situation,'' Pakistan cricket board chief Ejaz Butt said.
Security concerns have plagued Pakistan for years and some foreign sports teams including from Australia have refused to play in the troubled nation.
Far out! This is terrible news.
Get out of Pakistan and don't go back!
this will be the death of the postponed Australian tour of Pakistan, rightfully so as well

but still pretty Heinous!
Yep, thats the end of foreign teams visiting Pakistan for a few years. I was watching a bit of the PAK Vs SL 1st Test last week and there was a bloke in the stands holding up a sign saying "Pakistan welcomes foreign teams".
While I'm sure the majority of Pakistanis do welcome foreign cricket teams, it will be sometime before the welcome mat needs to be laid out again.
radio saying aussie coach Trevor Bailiss among the injured
minor injuries according to the news report i just saw

Most International teams haven't been going there, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe on ODI tours. Australia last toured Pakistan in 1998ish, haven't heard of the poms or Sth africans heading there for a while. Australias last "tour to pakistan" was played in Sri Lanka and the 2nd and 3rd tests were played in Dubai
