The Force 2013 summary is up at the roar:
http://www.theroar.com.au/2013/01/11...western-force/
jump on and leave some comments. Im just about to read it now
The long sobs of autumn's violins wound my heart with a monotonous languor
Ah nothing like being the underdogs.
Generally speaking you aren’t learning much if your lips are moving!!!
I believe that the force will be the surprise packet of Super 15 this season and I wouldn't be surprised if we at the very least make a semi final berth.
We have improved our back line and brought in some fantastic coaches to implement a better style of rugby and our forward pack is arguably the best in our conference and one of the best in the competition.
With Michael Foley at the helm pulling the strings in his calm confident knowledgeable manner with a band of 35 merry men all pulling in the same direction with no big time charlies 2013 is the year of the force!
Glad to read that the comments weren't very negative! I have seen comments on other sites which have been awful and so negative! I really hope it is a turn around season for the Force!
Appreciate the sentiment Peter, but I agree with SB's comment and think 3rd in Australia is probably the best/most realistic outcome. The schedule, with so many away games early on, and a team with quite a bit of player turnover, will either make us or break us; our first six games are:
Rebels in Melbourne
Kings in Port Elizabeth
Bulls in Pretoria
Bye
Reds in Brisbane
Cheetahs at Nib
Tahs in Sydney
The rest of the schedule goes: Rebels (H), Crusaders (H), Hurricanes (A), Brumbies (A), Reds (H), Chiefs (A), Sharks (H), Highlanders (H), Bye, Tahs (H), 4 weeks off, Brumbies (H).
We should beat the Kings and Cheetahs, and have reasonable records in Melbourne and Sydney. If we are 4-2 after 1 home and 5 away games, I reckon we could finish 11-5, which would put us in the play-offs. However, if we're 2-4, and the team hasn't gelled, we could end up 4-12!
I do worry about the 4 week break before the final match, too, especially as we've a potentially important conference match remaining. Any chance of a game or two being planned for the squad not involved with the Wallabies? Maybe another trip to Adelaide, or how about a week in Samoa/Tonga?
Adelaide is an option again - if it does happen mostly likely will be on the same day as the tahs v B&I Lions.
